Enrich the List Project
This page has been created for our YAC branches and hosts all the information and resources you should need to Enrich the List with your images, insights and secrets of England’s spectacular historic places.
The Young Archaeologists’ Club has partnered with Historic England to give YAC branches the opportunity to ‘Enrich The List’. We have created bespoke activities and resources to help our members explore their local place. Whilst ELT is England specific the activity pack has lots of activity ideas that branches from across the UK can utilise.
What is Listing?
Did you know 99% of England’s population lives within one mile of a listed building or place? Listing is the term given to the practice of listing buildings, scheduling monuments, registering parks, gardens and battlefields, and protecting wreck sites.
The List has over 400,000 entries: tower blocks and tombstones, barrows and bunkers, palaces and pigsties, plague crosses and piers, cathedrals, windmills and rollercoasters.
Many places on the List are well-known and even world-famous. But in some cases, there is much that remains unknown.

What is Enrich the List?
Enrich the List launched in 2016 with the aim of keeping the List rich, relevant and up-to-date by asking the public to contribute information, through photographs, historical events, social history or information about the architecture or archaeology of a site.
How can Young Archaeologists’ Clubs get involved?
By registering, using the specific Young Archaeologists’ Club version of the Enrich the List website, YAC Branches can learn about their local heritage and help to ‘Enrich the List’ by taking photographs, creating art, collecting stories and uploading them to each listing.
You can find out more information about the projects and the types of additions YAC branches and members can make to the list here:

We have also created a guide to registering for the website which you can find here:

Resources
To run alongside the project to Enrich the List we have created a resource pack – Additional Resources and Activities – containing four new activities:
- Create your own Art Exhibition
- Create a Nature Collage
- Scrap Mapping
- Build a Heritage Trail
You will also find further activity ideas at the end of the pack with a basic explanation and additional resource links where available. These activities can be utilised by all our YAC branches across the UK.
Connections to Other Projects
Many of the activity ideas can also be used to explore local places more generally including as part of the My Place in Time Project.
We hope you enjoy Enriching the List and exploring your local places and spaces!
