Today is this year’s Festival of Archaeology Youth Day! The Festival of Archaeology is for everyone but today is when we especially celebrate the power of young people in archaeology and share new ways for them to get involved. There’s lots happening online today, from new digital resources to our annual conference, so read on to find out more…
New Archaeology and Nature Themed Resource Pack
Our Youth Advisory Board members and placement students have produced a fantastic new resource pack based on this year’s festival theme of archaeology and nature. Activities include Ancient Egyptian make-up, ghostly East Anglian folklore,ย votive deposition and ancient stone monuments. The pack includes factual background information and step-by-step activity instructions.

Student and Early Careers Conference
Join us on 30th July, 3-7:30pm for this year’s free online conference hosted by the CIfA Early Careers Special Interest Group and the Council for British Archaeology. This online conference is for students and early career archaeologists to share their research and projects. It is perfect watching for anyone interested in studying or working in archaeology and heritage.
This yearโs programme includes fascinating presentations on the following themes:
- Colonial narratives
- Osteoarchaeology and bioarchaeology
- Votive deposition โ what we leave behind
- Coastal archaeology and climate change

Unearthing Futures resources
Back in September 2025 the CBA’s Youth Advisory Board delivered an amazing youth event for 16-25 year-olds on careers in archaeology at the Great North Museum in Newcastle, including workshops, hands-on activities and networking. You can find out about what we got up to on the Unearthing Futures webpage. We’re pleased to share a new collection of digital resources adapted from the day’s workshop content. Resources include:
- Archaeological illustration
- Heritage photography
- Zooarchaeology
- Landscape survey
- Museum curation
- Networking and careers
We hope these resources will be of interest to any young people keen to dig deeper into some different archaeological skills and develop some new knowledge.

The Council for British Archaeology are looking for 10 young people aged 18-25 from a range of backgrounds across the UK who are enthusiastic to help shape the future of archaeology! This is a fantastic opportunity to have your voice heard, influence the future of archaeology, develop new skills, and work alongside other passionate young people from across the UK. Whether you’re a student, volunteer, or just passionate about archaeology and heritage, we’d love to hear from you.
