Dunluce Castle is located dramatically close to a headland that plunges straight into the sea. Dating back to the 14th century, it belonged to the McQuillans, later during the 16th and 17th centuries, it became the headquarters of the MacDonnell Clan.

Recently archaeological excavation revealed the remarkably well preserved remains of the village that surrounded the castle which was built in 1608 and destroyed by fire in 1641. There is a display on the castle in the reception area and the Discovery Centre displays information and some of the artefacts found during the excavation of the village.
