Binchester Roman Fort (Vinovia) was first built in timber and earth around AD79. It was rebuilt in stone during the 2nd century AD. The visible remains include a stretch of Dere Street, the Commanderโs house and a bathhouse with hypocaust. See the very impressive remains of the recently excavated bath building outside the fort.
