The 12th-century hall-house hidden inside the extensive remains of Aberdour Castle make it arguably the oldest standing stone castle in Scotland. Aberdour was heightened and converted into a more typical Scottish tower-house in the 15th century, and further extended by the Douglases in the 16th and 17th centuries. The castle boasts a delightful walled garden and terraces with a beehive-shaped dovecot.
