Archaeologists in Spain discover elephant bone that may prove war elephants crossed the Alps

It has long been believed that Roman commander Hannibal led his army from North Africa to Europe with a troop of battle elephants in the Second Punic War in the 3rd century BCE. Archaeologists digging in southern Spain have discovered an elephant’s foot bone which may provide the first archaeological evidence for this elephantine event!
