5,000-year-old solstice structure discovered near Stone Henge
Archaeologists from Wessex Archaeology have recently discovered an ancient structure near Stone Henge. Radio carbon dating shows that this structure it is a similar age to the earliest phase of the Stone Henge site, around 5,000 years ago, but 500 years before the stones at Stone Henge that we can see today. The structure was built to align with the summer solstice and may have been a prototype for Stone Henge itself.
