Manchester YAC

Greater Manchester YAC is open to everyone aged 8–16 years.

We get involved in all sorts of activities, including visiting and investigating archaeological sites and historic places, trying out traditional crafts, taking part in excavations, and lots more. We try to theme the years activities around a particular theme or period, which the children are involved in developing. 2026’s theme is: EARLY MODERN

Greater Manchester YAC is based between Bolton Museum, Rochdale Town Hall, and Manchester Museum and usually meets once a month. Parents will always be notified beforehand where a session is taking place.

Joining Greater Manchester YAC

We take members throughout the year. 

Membership subscriptions are £15 for the year, which covers insurance, equipment, room hire etc. Memberships are renewed at the start of each year. 

Each session has a cost of £2 per child, which covers refreshments and any consumable materials used in that session. Outdoor, excavations, museum visits or full-day sessions may cost more depending on the activity.

Fees are only taken to cover costs, and not to generate a surplus. If you feel that the cost of membership or session fee is inhibitive then you can speak to us in confindence about how we can accomodate your child. 

There is no obligation to attend each session, and you are welcome to attend which ever sessions fit your schedule or interest. Bookings for each session are taken during the month prior to the session and are on a first-come-first-serve basis.
