New ‘The Silk Roads’ YAC Resource Pack

Earlier this year, YAC ventured down to Brighton to take part in a Leader Training Day delivered by Archaeodiscovery who just happen to be Brighton YAC leaders as well! The focus of our leader training was The Silk Roads inspired by our older YAC members who had asked for more World Archaeology sessions during the YAC Impact Study we ran last year.

Archaeodiscovery stepped-up and offered to develop a whole new resource, packed with interesting activities, including games, crafts and baking; all based on the incredibly varied archaeology of The Silk Road. In it you can bake you own halva, which is fudgy treat that existed throughout the Middle East, North Africa, the Balkans, South and Central Asia. And the first written halva recipe dates back to C7th CE Persia! You can also make a mini pagoda with a mantra. Many religions began to build impressive monuments and places of worship. Pagodas, stupas and monasteries popped up at locations all along the Silk Roads and now you can create your own.

YAC Leaders from across the South of England gathered at Brighton Pavillion to learn about The Silk Road and try their hand at some of the activities created by Archaeodiscovery.

We’re really pleased to be able to share this resource with the wider YAC network now it has been finalised with feedback from our leaders.

We hope you find it useful and our members love learning about The Silk Road!
