Do you have to sometimes visit other countries? Eva (10)
Archaeology is a fantastic subject because it has many specialities: digging is not all there is to it, you also need to record features (which implies describing their nature, drawing, taking photographs…), you need to survey them, study the finds (pottery, bone, flint…), write a report, create plans, and to answer your question: you do not have to visit other countries but depending on the speciality you choose, you may have to!
People who specialise in one part of the world (let’s say classical archaeology and Greek or Roman sites, or people specialising in Egyptology) will travel there. Other specialities, such as osteology (the study of bones) or carpology (the study of seeds) are valid anywhere.
Archaeology is a job that enables you to travel should you wish to, but many archaeologists are also specialised in their local areas and do not need or wish to travel.
