Built in AD200 as part of a great mansio or hotel for official travellers, the Roman Painted House at Dover stood outside the naval fort of the Classis Britannica. In AD270 the Roman army destroyed part of it for a new larger fort. Roman wall paintings; Roman central heating systems; part of the fort wall and bastion; displays and finds. The house was discovered in 1970.
