Safeguarding
The Council for British Archaeology (CBA), of which YAC is a part, acknowledges its duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults and is committed to ensuring that its policies and procedures reflect its statutory responsibilities, government guidance and are compliant with best practice and Charity Commission requirements.
Our policies recognise that everyone has a role to play in identifying concerns, sharing information and taking prompt action.
YAC aims to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, ability or disability, gender, ethnicity religion or belief, sexual orientation, and socio-economic background:
- can have a positive and enjoyable experience at YAC in a safe and inclusive environment.
- is protected from any kind of abuse while participating in any activities provided by the CBA.
The resources provided below will give you the information you need to adhere to the policies, and guidance on how to deal with a safeguarding incident or concern if it should arise.

This is the primary safeguarding policy for the YAC prepared by our parent charity, the Council for British Archaeology. It also includes ‘Staying Safe: a children’s guide to safeguarding’Digital Safeguarding Policy
The Digital Safeguarding Policy covers all aspects of running online activities and engaging digitally.
Safeguarding Induction & Training
Every CBA-managed YAC branch is required to have two leaders undertake the NSPCC online training course organised by YAC-HQ.
In addition to the two trained safeguarding volunteers at each branch, every YAC volunteer must undertake a ‘Safeguarding Induction’ before volunteering with the group. This takes roughly an hour and should be delivered by one of the two YAC leaders responsible for safeguarding at your YAC branch. It is the responsibility of the YAC Leader(s) to ensure that this takes place.
Here you will find all required information.
