Introducing our Newest Branch: Ludlow YAC!
June 2025
We’re pleased to introduce Ludlow YAC based in Shropshire, our latest addition to the Young Archaeologists’ Club network. Branch Leader, Mark, tells us about their taster session and plans for the branch.
Ludlow Young Archaeologists’ Club is launching on the 21st June! The branch is being run from Ludlow Library and Museum by a group of parents who all have children interested in archaeology. We will be doing a wide variety of exciting activities, from learning how to plan an archaeological dig, how to look after finds, and exploring many of the local historical sites.
Ludlow Young Archaeologists’ Club held an open taster session at the library on the 10th May. Over 22 young archaeologists came along to see what the club would involve, many of them bringing things they have found, including clay pipe fragments, an ink pot, and even a Roman coin. The branch is really excited to help young people discover more about archaeology and find out about the history of the people that used to live in and around Ludlow through the ages. There is so much history in the area, from the obvious things like the castle, to the iron age hill forts and remains of the trenches from the siege of Ludlow in 1646. The club has lots of interest and support from local archaeologists and history societies, all helping to put together a range of exciting events.
