A group of children lean over the edge of a large sandpit to excavate it with brushes and metal trowels.

Norwich YAC

Norwich YAC is open to everyone aged 8–16 years, living in Norwich and surrounding parts of Norfolk. YAC clubs get involved in all sorts of activities, including visiting and investigating archaeological sites and historic places, trying out traditional crafts, taking part in excavations, and lots more.

Norwich YAC is based at The Hostry at Norwich Cathedral and meets once a month from October to July, with extra trips and events as available. Most years we are able to take part in a field walk and/or a geophysics day on a local site, and occasionally test pitting as well.

A team of 5 volunteers runs the club, and we are all involved in other local archaeology projects as well, which means we have great access to local sites and experts. The branch is also supported by The Norfolk and Norwich Archaeological Society, and we have our winter meeting on the same day as their talks, so members who want to can go to both!

If you want to know more about how we recruit YAC volunteers and make sure children at YAC clubs are well looked after, check out our FAQs. If you’d like to get involved with Norwich YAC, get in touch with the team using the details above.
