Make Gingerbread Christmas Decorations

The Victorians liked to decorate their Christmas tree with food such as biscuits, fruit, or popcorn garlands.

Step 1

Wash your hands before you start.

Step 2

Sieve the flour, salt, bicarbonate of soda, ginger, and cinnamon into a large bowl.

Step 3

In the microwave heat the butter, sugar, and syrup until they have dissolved (about 30 seconds). After allowing it to cool slightly, mix into the dry ingredients. If the mixture is too dry, try adding more melted butter to the mix.

Step 4

Chill the dough in the fridge for 30 minutes.

Step 5

Preheat the oven to 190°c. On a clean surface, dusted with flour, roll the dough out to be about ¼ inch thick.

Step 6

Cut out your desired shapes and make sure to make a hole at the top to put the ribbon through.

Step 7

Bake in the oven for 10-15 minutes and leave to cool.

Step 8

Use icing to create designs on your gingerbread. You can also use silver balls as decorations.

Step 9

When the icing has completely dried attach the ribbon and put on your Christmas tree.
