Time Team's Dig Village YAC Competition - The Winners!
Time Team’s Dig Village was created to help people discover more about their local heritage. For the past few years, they have been working closely with the people of Dunster, Somerset, helping to piece together its fascinating history. Dig Village is particularly passionate about getting local children involved in their own area. As proud supporters of the Young Archaeologists’ Club, Dig Village ran a competition over the summer to help YAC groups purchase equipment that they can use to explore their local history.
Our members were asked to come up with a design to help archaeologists stop losing equipment on site! We had some fantastic entries. The winning design was created by Kirsten from Barnsley and Rotherham YAC, who designed a brightly coloured trowel with flashing lights (see below).
The runner-up, Sophie from Leicestershire YAC, created three tools to keep those archaeologists in check.
Both were invited to the British Museum, as part of the Festival of Archaeology launch event, to receive their prizes, which were presented by members of the Time Team. Here you can see Sophie with all her fantastic goodies.
Well done Kirsten and Sophie. We hope you enjoy your prizes and your YAC clubs are able to buy some fantastic kit to help you plan your next #YACadventure.
A big thank you to Time Team Dig Village for creating such a great competition and providing such generous prizes for our Young Archaeologists.
