New Youth Engagement Assistant
Hi, my name is Rachel, and I’m the new Youth Engagement Assistant here at the Council for British Archaeology. Part of my job is to help administer YAC by processing applications for Leaders and Assistants, answering questions from both volunteers and parents and creating new resources and activities for members to enjoy.
Last September, I decided to change my career and return to university to study Cultural Heritage Management at the University of York. During my course, I got to explore different aspects of heritage and archaeology, including buildings archaeology, museum exhibition design and heritage education. As part of my course, I was placed in an internship with the Council for British Archaeology, during which I carried an audit of the YAC website. You can read about it here: My Internship!
I loved my time at the CBA so much I applied for a job and, since joining a month ago, I have done lots of fun things like finds washing and visiting my local YAC branch, plus a trip to the seaside. I’ve been interested in archaeology since I was a child but have never actually participated in a real dig so I’m hoping I get the opportunity to very soon.
We have lots of interesting projects to get started on for both YAC and the wider population of young people and I’m excited to show you these as they develop. If you have any ideas or feedback you’d like to share with me you can email me at email@example.com.
