Introducing our newest YAC at Dundonald Castle, Ayrshire
YAC-HQ is pleased to announce that we can now add Ayrshire YAC to our growing number of UK YAC branches. The branch is run by the Friends of Dundonald Castle, who are a registered Scottish Charity. Their main objectives are public education, community engagement, the creation of local jobs and providing access to, and protecting the fabric of their castle.
Over the coming months, the group will investigate the woodlands and castle environs. YAC members will have chance to partake in archaeological planning and recording, learn about prehistory in the area, and take part in the annual excavation at the castle.
Lauren Welsh, Archaeology Co-ordinator, runs the sessions at Dundonald Castle. She says ‘We are very excited that our Ayrshire YAC is now up and running. Our first session was a huge success and we are very much looking forward to the fantastic timetable set up for the coming year and cannot wait until the next meeting. It's great to be part of such an enthusiastic group of people!
