Excavating the waggonway!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an archaeologist?! The team from the Stephenson Railway Museum in North Shields are providing an amazing opportunity for you to find out during the Festival of Archaeology!
You can join in with hands-on activities and find out more about the Willington waggonway, the best preserved and most complete section of early wooden railway to have been excavated anywhere in the world!
Have a go at a mini dig or join in with the many different craft activities. Talk to an archaeologist, visit the temporary exhibition and find out how the site has been rescued and preserved as part of the North East’s unique railway heritage.
Friday 28th July 2017, from 11:00–15:00.
