Engine Model Building Competition
Are you a nifty crafter? An ambitious builder? A minecraft genius? Under 25? And you also love archaeology?
If so, we have just the thing for you! Elsecar Heritage Centre is hosting a building competition to see who can most faithfully and most creatively build a model of their Newcomen Engine. The engine in question is the world’s oldest steam engine you can still see in its original location in Elsecar.
The competition welcomes any and all approaches to model building, physical or digital and awards extra points for attention to detail and creativity. The deadline to send in your photos or videos is before 5pm on July 26th. Your submission should include your name, age and contact details. Entries can be submitted to ElsecarHeritageCentre@Barnsley.gov.uk or shared on Facebook @GreatPlaceWE.
The competition is now open and the winner will be announced on August 9th.
What are the prizes you ask?
First prize for 14 Years Old and Under: A personal tour of the Engine for two adults and three children (including the winner) as well as a one-off opportunity to operate the engine!
First Prize for 15 to 25 Years Olds: A rooftop tour of Wentworth Woodhouse (for two people). An exciting opportunity to see the largest historic building in Europe up close!
So don’t miss your chance to have some fun and show off your skills!
