Spotlight on...... Chiltern Open Air Museum
Chiltern Open Air Museum is an outdoor Museum in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire of over 30 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings that were the workplaces or homes of ordinary people from within the Chilterns. Many of the buildings have been lovingly reconstructed by volunteers who are passionate about preserving the history of the Chilterns. The Museum’s collection of buildings include: an Iron Age roundhouse, Blacksmith’s forge, tin chapel, Victorian toll house, WWI and WWII Nissen huts, working Victorian farm and more all set in 45 acres of Chilterns countryside. The Museum’s unique collection of buildings and close location to Pinewood and Elstree studios means that it’s a popular filming venue and has been used for filming CBBC’s Horrible Histories, Mary Queen of Scots, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Downton Abbey and lots more.

Watch fearsome gladiators in action as a team of criminals, barbarians and other prisoners of war, disgraced soldiers and thrill seekers fight for the entertainment of the crowds and the Emperor. Who will live, and who will die: you decide! Meet the costumed re-enactors and learn about life in the 1st century AD with gladiatorial displays taking place at 12 and 3pm.
The gladiators will be brought to life by Britannia, who will be demonstrating the excitement and brutality of life in the late Roman period. Britannia have worked on over 150 TV and film projects, including Ridley Scott’s Gladiator and CBBC’s Horrible Histories
Lizzie Dunford, Operations Manager at Chiltern Open Air Museum, said
