Bedford YAC dig at Willington
During the weekend of July 15th – 16th the young archaeologists from (Bedford YAC were given the opportunity to continue excavations they have been involved with over the last 4 years at the National Trust’s Tudor Dovecote and Stables at Willington in Bedfordshire.
With help from professional archaeologists from Albion Archaeology, along with the National Trust and the Willington Local History Group, they helped to look for remains of other buildings associated with manor, alongside the two buildings still standing on the site.
Despite the odd downpour, the YAC members helped the archaeologists locate the corner of “The Great Barn”, and possibly two further buildings! The YAC members also got involved with washing the huge amount of tile, and brick recovered!
A great and productive day on site... even if they did get a little bit damp!
