2019 Programme

  • Saturday 16th February, 10am-11.30am: Old Dock Tour - Visit the world's first enclosed commercial wet dock, under ground at Liverpool ONE shopping centre and learn about its construction and trade through the 18th Century port of Liverpool. Merseyside Maritime Museum, meet in the foyer.
  • Saturday 23rd March, 10am-11.30am: Ancient Egypt - Visit the Egypt gallery at World Museum, see amazing objects and even meet a Mummy!. World Museum, Liverpool, meet in the Atrium.
  • Saturday 27th April, 10am-11:30am: Archaeobotony - Learn about how archaeologists use the science of botany to understand landscapes, environments and, diets.  Museum of Liverpool
  • Saturday 25th May, 10am-11:30am: Celtic Britain - Before the Romans Iron Age Britian was made up of tribal communities of 'celts' - learn about their lifestyles, and even make some of their beautiful jewellery.  Museum of Liverpool
  • Monday 12th August, 10:30am-4:00pm: Sheep to Shirt - A hands-on session learning how clothes were made in he past! with Travellers Through Time.  Museum of Liverpool
  • Tuesday 13th August, 10:30am-4:00pm: Roman and Medieval Chester - Visit Chester Cathedral to explore the medieval history of the City. Even meet some feathered friends! Then journey further back in time to be a Roman soldier. Meeting instructions to follow.
  • Date TBC, 10:30am-4:00pm: Norton Priory Visit - Norton Priory is the most excavated monastic site in Europe. Visit the museum, priory remains, and get involved with the current archaeological excavation. Meeting instructions to follow.
  • Saturday 21st September, 10am-11.30am: Neolithic Textiles - Evidence about what people wore in the Stone Ages may be sparce, but examples do survive! This session will teach us about prehistoric fabrics. Museum of Liverpool 
  • Saturday 26th October, 10am-11:30am: Axes to Archaeology - As metalworking developed in the Bronze Age potential for people to control the landscape did too - learn about the Bronze Age, and the new tools used in this period. Museum of Liverpool
  • Saturday 23rd November, 10am-11:30am: Second World War VE Day Party - A wartime celebration for our end-of-year fun! Make themed decorations and learn about rationing and party foods! Museum of Liverpool
