My name is Ayesha and I was really surprised by the quantity of information in this book….
This book contains general information about archaeology and then details on fifteen different sites. These range from the wrecks of the Titanic and the Swedish flagship: the Vasa, to the Altamira Ice Age cave paintings and the Ancient Indian City of Mohenjo-Daro. The sites are ordered chronologically.
I was really surprised by the quantity of information in this book and pleased by the fact it covers many sites and periods that you don’t cover in detail at school.
It also had hundreds of interesting facts. For example, did you know that every single Terracotta warrior – and there were thousands – had their faces modelled on real people so each one is an individual?!
Also the ancient city of Mohenjo-Daro in India dating from 2600 BC had public toilets?! The book is presented clearly with many illustrations including photographs. The language used is not over complicated but it is still fascinating.
I think this book is suitable for fluent younger readers although teenagers may want to read a more complex book.
