Peak District YAC's Anglo-Saxon adventures
This year Peak District YAC are looking at the Anglo Saxons, and for our last session we went on a trip to the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Stoke-On-Trent to look at the Staffordshire Hoard.
Assistant Curator Alison was there to welcome us to the museum and to tell us all about the Hoard. First we had a look at the objects on display in the museum. These were very intricately detailed and we used magnifying glasses to get a better look at some of the objects. We all thought it was amazing how they had been made without using any modern technology! Then we got to hold some replica pieces of the hoard. It was good to be able to look up close and in detail and at the whole of the objects, and try to decipher what animals were in the stylised decoration.
And what trip to a museum would be complete without dressing up? From peasants to kings, everyone looked fabulous as Anglo Saxons!
Peak District YAC would like to thank Alison from the Potteries Museum for a brilliant session... thank you Alison!
