Members of our Stirlingshire YAC kicked off their 2017 by revisiting prehistory, and learning alll about Neolithic monuments and tombs. One of the club's leaders, Derek Young, explains more...
During our meeting, we found out more about different types of tombs, and how they were built, and discussed what Neolithic people might have believed. Our members then made some model tombs – on a slightly smaller scale – using polystyrene trays, sand and pebbles. There were some really impressive tombs!
We also discussed how Neolithic people may have moved the giant blocks of stone that were used to build monuments and tombs. One idea was using rollers to move the stones. We tried this out – again on a smaller scale! – by having a 'stone race'. The challenge was to move one of our small pebbles using some of the methods that we had discussed.
All said, it was a rocking meeting!
