Festival of Archaeology 2017: It's happening right now
It's happening RIGHT NOW!
After months of preparation, weeks of hard work, and lots of excitement, it's finally here... the Festival of Archaeology has started!
There are more than a thousand awesome archaeology-themed events taking place at hundreds of venues across the UK right up to Sunday 30th July.
There are re-enactments, digs, walks and guided tours, hands-on activities, demonstrations, experimental archaeology, storytelling, crafts, exhibitions, surveys and much much more.

Send us your photos
If you go along to a Festival of Archaeology event, we'd love to hear what you get up to – and even better, we'd love to see your photos.
Send us your pictures to firstname.lastname@example.org. And if you would like to write a blog about your Festival of Archaeology adventures, we'd love to hear from you. We'll send a mystery prize to anyone who has their blog published here on the YAC website!!
Don't forget you Archaeocakes!
Remember that to celebrate the Festival of Archaeology we're running a brilliant baking competition. We want photos of your archaeocakes!
It is simple to enter, just submit a photo of your archaeology-themed bake to the Council for British Archaeology before the end of August – unfortunately the judges aren’t able to travel the country and taste each entry, as much as we'd like to!
Your entry can be based on any aspect of archaeology: a dig, a discovery, a heritage site or ancient monument, a recreation of times past, a famous archaeologist, or fictional archaeology hero.
There are two categories, '13 and under' and '14+' (there's no upper age limit!).
Email a picture of your creation to email@example.com Shortlisted entries will be uploaded to the Festival Instagram account.
Your email should include your name and age (on 31st August), and a caption. If you are sending multiple entries, please send one email and caption per email.
