A curator’s main job is to care for, display and interpret artefacts so that the public can learn more about the museum’s collection and enjoy exciting displays.

The job can include…
- keeping records of objects
- researching and writing catalogues
- organising exhibitions
- caring for the museum’s collection
- handling enquiries from researchers and the public
- giving presentations and talking to individuals and groups about exhibits
Curator Peter Robinson says
I’d definitely recommend being a curator. Who else gets to live in the present and the past at the same time, apart from Doctor Who? There is no such thing as a typical day’s work for a Museum Curator. I could be excavating a Neolithic trackway, creating a display on medieval pottery, running a Young Archaeologists’ Club Branch session or researching a collection of Roman coins. No two days are alike; when I come into work I’m never sure what might pop up and surprise me!
