Archaeology Abroad

Some archaeologists take opportunities to do fieldwork abroad. The political situation can limit where you can go sometimes, and language can also be a barrier. Digs can be big or small, short- or long-term, urban or rural, in varying climates, and from any archaeological period.
Archaeology Abroad is a programme which helps people of all ages to find archaeological opportunities abroad. Archaeology Abroad is published in the spring and autumn on a CD ROM. It lists over 1,000 placements on excavation projects and field schools in around 25 countries worldwide! You can subscribe to the service through the CBA Online Shop.
Archaeology Abroad also offers Fieldwork Awards of up to £500 to subscribers; winners are asked to write a review of the excavation or field school they have participated in. These reports provide a fascinating insight into what it is like to take part in archaeological fieldwork around the world.
Whatever your interest, working abroad can have many benefits:
- learning new skills and play an active part in revealing, understanding and preserving the past.
