Who’s Who at Glamorgan YAC?

Your YAC Branch is brilliantly run by an ace team of volunteer leaders, but who are these fabulous people?

Sian Williams, Branch Leader

Sian is from Bridgend but graduated from Bournemouth University with a degree in archaeology. Today she works in the documentation department at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, looking after archaeological records and photographs of industry. Sian’s favourite period is the Iron Age but she also loves heritage interpretation. In her free time she enjoys going to the gym and watching Rugby. She supports Wales (of course) and the Cardiff Blues.

Andy Piper, Assistant Leader

In ‘real life’ Andy has an ordinary computer-based job but he studied Geology and Archaeology at university and has definite potential as an Indiana Jones-style adventurer! He’s explored ruins in Egypt, India and Peru, and even manages historical adventures closer to home as an occasional member of historical re-enactment groups.

Richard

Richard Lewis, Assistant Leader

Richard joined us late in 2006. He has a degree in Archaeology from Cardiff University. Since then he has worked for the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust. Richard is particularly interested in the prehistory of Southeast Wales, especially funery and ritual monuments.
In his spare time Richard enjoys doing sporty things like keeping fit and watching rugby.

Cloe

Cloe Gerrard, Assistant Leader

Cloe also joined us in late 2006. She went to Bournemouth University and came away with a degree in archaeology. Since then Cloe has managed to find work as an archaeologist, digging all around the UK! She now works for the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust in Swansea.
In her spare time Cloe enjoys dancing and has competed at national level. Cloe is also learning Italian and loves pasta!

Ellie Graham, Assistant Leader

Ellie joined us in summer 2007, and her role involves dealing with membership of the branch. She studied Egyptology and Ancient History at the University of Wales Swansea, and recently completed an MA in Professional and Applied Archaeology.
She works for the Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust, working on a variety of projects, both in the office and on site, but most enjoys being outside digging. Ellie is especially interested in Roman Britain, and in her spare time loves to go hiking around Gower and other parts of South Wales..

Laura Hilton, Occasional Visiting Assistant Leader

Laura was the Heritage Education Officer at Tondu Victorian Ironworks, and the founder of this YAC branch. She’s studied A-level Classical Studies, and got a degree in Mediaeval History and Archaeology as well as a Masters in Museum Studies. She’s left Wales for another job, but promises to come along to meetings when she's in the area.
