How can I get involved in archaeology?

Joining the Young Archaeologists’ Club is a great way to get into archaeology! Find out how to join YAC UK here! Loads of our ex-YAC members have gone on to get jobs in archaeology. Did you know that Simon Thurley – the top man at English Heritage – used to be a YAC member?!!

You could try joining a local YAC Branch for some hands-on activities.

You can visit your library or some of the museums and archaeological sites in your local area. They often have introductory information, books and details of events. Remember that YAC UK members can get free entry and special offers at loads of top archaeological museums with the fab YAC Pass.

You can find out what is happening in your area during the Council for British Archaeology’s Festival of British Archaeology. The Festival happens every year in July. It includes excavations, fun days, exhibitions, workshops, hands-on activities, talks, walks, experimental archaeology, and more at venues all around England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands! You can find out about activities and events taking in your area through the website (events listings are available from May each year).

And don’t forget Scottish Archaeology Month! It takes place every September and is organised by Archaeology Scotland
