About Archaeology
What is Archaeology?
Archaeology is a way of learning about people who lived in the past by studying the things that they left behind.
Or, as Mick Aston from Time Team once said: archaeology is rubbish!!
A lot of the evidence that archaeologists look at is rubbish – objects that people threw away!
Using this evidence, archaeologists can find out about:
- where people lived
- what they ate
- what they believed
- what they wore
- what tools they used
- the effects they had on their environment
- and much more!
Archaeologists are like detectives! They use the evidence that they collect to try to build up a picture of what everyday life was like for people in the past.
